This was discussed during a meeting that Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Eugen Osmochescu held with representatives of the Sectoral Advisory Council on Fruits, Nuts, and Berries, during which he discussed the situation in the sector, its challenges, and areas for development. Industry representatives presented proposed sustainable development goals for horticulture for the coming years. These include modernizing orchards, increasing productivity, and doubling exports—in part by increasing the value added of the products sold. During the discussions, the need for investment in post-harvest infrastructure was emphasized. It was noted that access to modern distribution networks and markets offering more favorable trading conditions requires additional capacity for sorting, grading, cooling, packaging, storage, and processing. In the context of European integration, participants noted that Moldova's fruit sector has competitive advantages and is already present in European supply chains.
