The Moldovan Customs Service has announced new conditions for international freight vehicles crossing the Cahul road customs checkpoint, which will take effect on August 21. Freight vehicles will be allowed to enter Moldova through this checkpoint, with the exception of those carrying goods in containers, as well as those in thermal or refrigerated trailers and semi-trailers—these vehicles must use other border customs checkpoints. When leaving the country via the Cahul checkpoint, only unloaded open or covered trailers and semi-trailers, as well as empty containers, will be permitted to use the checkpoint. Loaded vehicles, empty tankers, and other types of unloaded trailers and semi-trailers will be required to cross the border through other checkpoints. These restrictions do not apply to goods transported under ATA carnets. Cargo and vehicles belonging to companies with Authorized Economic Operator (AEOS/AEOF) status may pass through the checkpoint in Cahul, with the exception of tankers and thermal or refrigerated trailers and semi-trailers. The new conditions also do not apply to passengers' personal belongings, with the exception of goods for commercial or industrial use imported or exported by individual entrepreneurs. The Customs Service explained that the restrictions are due to the infrastructure and operational capabilities of the Cahul checkpoint and recommended that carriers take into account the direction of travel, type of transport, and method of cargo transport in advance when planning their routes. // 17.08.2026 — InfoMarket.
