According to the European Union delegation in our country, overproduction in the textile industry is a serious problem that has a negative impact on the environment. A huge amount of clothing remains unsold, and some of these items are incinerated or disposed of as waste, even though they could be reused, donated to charity, or recycled. To reduce waste, the European Union is introducing regulations prohibiting large companies from destroying unsold clothing, accessories, and footwear. This measure is part of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation and aims to promote more sustainable practices in the textile sector. It is emphasized that for Moldova, as an EU candidate country, this issue is particularly relevant in the context of gradually aligning national regulations with European environmental standards, as well as developing more effective solutions for the reuse, separate collection, and sustainable management of textile waste. // 04.08.2026 — InfoMarket
