According to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, strengthening regional cooperation in the field of seismic risk prevention and management was the main topic of the meeting of the Special Working Group on Seismic Risk of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), which was held online. Moldova was represented by Veaceslav Șipitca, State Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development. The meeting was attended by representatives from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey, Ukraine, Greece, Romania, and other countries in the region, who discussed measures needed to reduce vulnerability to earthquakes and enhance emergency response capabilities. Discussions focused on the consequences of natural disasters that have occurred in recent years in the Black Sea region, including loss of life, population evacuations, and significant damage to infrastructure and buildings. In this context, participants emphasized the need for closer cooperation among states to prevent risks and mitigate the consequences of disasters. Representatives from Greece, Armenia, and Romania shared their national experiences and practices in the field of seismic risk reduction. Following the discussions, the participants recommended strengthening cooperation in three areas: the use of modern technologies and satellite monitoring to forecast natural disasters; the improvement of mechanisms for providing assistance and responding to emergencies; and the creation of seismic risk maps for major cities and densely populated areas. These measures are intended to help countries in the region identify vulnerable areas, prepare for potential earthquakes, and ensure the protection of the population and buildings. // 08.10.2026 — InfoMarket
