Since the beginning of the year, more than 20,000 people have found jobs through the regional offices of the National Agency for Employment in Moldova. The agency notes that job placements have covered various categories of job seekers and industries, and the ministry has already outlined new guidelines for supporting employment in the near future.
Moldova will need to significantly increase employment to move closer to its 2030 targets; however, experts estimate that the labor market problem stems not so much from unemployment as from low labor force participation. In the national program currently being developed, government officials and business leaders are discussing measures designed to simultaneously reduce labor shortages and bring a significant portion of economically inactive citizens into the labor market.
Moldova's business agenda is being reshaped by a wave of fiscal, energy and investment decisions, with parliament advancing a broad tax package, new rules for key market segments and major infrastructure projects. At the same time, regulators are signaling possible pressure on household electricity bills, while international lenders and partners are moving ahead with fresh financing and modernization plans.
Moldova has stepped up oversight of informal employment: as a result of inspections, thousands of workers have been brought into the formal sector, and the labor inspectorate has recorded a significant increase in the number of inspections and violations. At the same time, a meeting of the Economic Council discussed new approaches to evaluating the effectiveness of oversight, expanding employment measures, and a potential mechanism that could open up additional opportunities for people with disabilities.

Since the beginning of the year, more than 15,000 people have found employment in Moldova with the assistance of local employment offices, and the majority of the new jobs were created in several key sectors. The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection also announced plans to expand and modernize employment services to make it easier for job seekers to find work and for employers to recruit staff.
The EU has funded the modernization of Moldova’s State Labor Inspectorate: this includes renovating and equipping its facilities, as well as implementing new digital and technical solutions to support the agency’s operations. As part of a broader support program, other measures are already being implemented that address labor inspection, employment, and enforcement of labor laws.
