Finance Minister Victoria Belous made this statement during an appearance on TV8, referring to the recommendations Moldova received from the International Monetary Fund's expert mission that had been working in the country regarding the budget deficit. According to the finance minister, the IMF experts recommend that the authorities adopt a balanced approach to reducing the deficit, avoiding sharp spending cuts in light of their impact on the population. "They recommend not reducing the deficit abruptly, because they understand that this is about the state and the people. They recommend reducing the deficit by 0.5 percentage points each year. What does this mean? If, for example, we have a budget deficit of 4.5% next year, then in 2028 it would be better to have 4%, and in 2029—3.5%. "They are proposing a balanced reduction in the budget deficit," explained Victoria Belous. The Minister of Finance emphasized that the IMF also recommends reviewing budget revenues and tax breaks, consolidating tax administration, and periodically assessing and optimizing government spending. As Victoria Belous noted, these recommendations are also among the Ministry of Finance's priorities, and the government will draft the 2027 budget with a declining deficit. // 30.10.2026 — InfoMarket
