Prime Minister Vasile Tofan made this statement during a meeting with the new Turkish ambassador to our country, Nazmiye Başaran, with whom he discussed deepening Moldovan-Turkish relations and expanding cooperation, with a particular focus on new projects and investments. The head of government emphasized Moldova's interest in a more active economic and investment presence by Turkey in our country. In this context, opportunities for Turkish companies were discussed, with new investments in the renewable energy sector drawing particular interest. To strengthen economic ties and bilateral dialogue, the parties discussed organizing the next meeting of the Moldovan-Turkish Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation. As noted, economic relations between the two countries are actively developing. In the first six months of 2026, the volume of bilateral trade reached $638.7 million, an increase of nearly 13% compared to the same period last year. Exports of Moldovan goods to Turkey grew by 36% to $260.6 million, and in 2025, the total volume of bilateral trade exceeded $1.1 billion. They also discussed cooperation in the field of education, specifically the activities of the Recep Erdogan Moldovan-Turkish College in Comrat and initiatives to support the study of the Găgăuz and Romanian languages in the autonomous region. Speaking about the Autonomous Territorial Unit (ATU) of Găgăuzia, Vasile Tofan emphasized the importance of constructive dialogue focused on the specific problems and needs of the population: economic development, job creation, and infrastructure development.
