The Ministry of Agriculture discussed the situation in the vegetable-growing sector, where producers face a number of challenges at every stage of the supply chain—from cultivation to marketing and processing. Particular attention was paid to support measures, attracting new participants into the economic cycle, and tools that could reshape the market in the coming years.
In Moldova, measures to support the sugar beet industry are being discussed, including subsidies and investment mechanisms for producers and processors. At a meeting with market participants, they also discussed the progress of the harvest, sugar sales conditions, and issues that could affect the balance of interests among domestic companies.
The Farmers' Association stated that the current temporary licensing regime for imports of grains and oilseeds is too short and does not provide sufficient protection for the domestic market amid intense pressure from external prices. Industry representatives warn that without an extension of the mechanism and a revision of its parameters, the situation could worsen in the coming months, and farmers are prepared to take protest action.
AIPA approved the disbursement of another tranche of funds from the National Fund for Agricultural and Rural Development. The decisions covered several areas of support, including compensation for weather-related losses and funding for investments in the agricultural sector, with the bulk of the funds allocated to one of the mechanisms most critical to farmers.
