The First Vice President of the National Bank of Moldova made this statement at the Capital Market Forum 2026, organized as part of Moldova Business Week. In his speech, Petru Rotaru emphasized the importance of developing a functional capital market, noting the need for the banking sector and the capital market to complement each other in order to ensure greater economic stability. According to him, financing of the national economy is currently concentrated primarily in the banking sector, so the complementary work of banks and the capital market is essential for enhancing the economy's stability. He noted that the establishment of the International Stock Exchange of Moldova (BIMx), with the participation of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, the Moldovan government, represented by the Public Property Agency, commercial banks, and other companies, forms the foundation of a modern market infrastructure. At the same time, the National Bank is participating in this process through the development of the Unified Central Securities Depository, the modernization of payment systems, the launch of the MIA instant payment system, preparations for joining the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), and the gradual liberalization of capital flows. Petru Rotaru noted that for the new market to function fully, it requires issuers prepared for listing, informed investors, professional intermediaries, and predictable regulation based on transparency, financial discipline, and corporate governance. "The National Bank will continue to contribute, within the scope of its mandate, to the modernization of the financial infrastructure and its alignment with European standards. Our common goal is to create a modern, functional, and trustworthy capital market capable of mobilizing resources for investment and supporting the sustainable development of Moldova's economy," stated Petru Rotaru. // 29.09.2026 — InfoMarket.
