The prime minister made this statement after visiting the capital's airport on Saturday to see how it was handling passenger traffic during peak hours. Vasile Tofan noted that there were 16 flights between 5 and 7 a.m. During that time, the airport was operating at full capacity. The Prime Minister pointed out that passenger traffic at Chișinău Airport has doubled in just two years, and this year the number of passengers carried will exceed 7 million, even though the airport was designed to handle roughly half that volume. Vasile Tofan emphasized that the capital's airport is too small for the current passenger traffic. Therefore, the renovation and expansion of the existing terminal at Chișinău Airport must begin no later than October. The Prime Minister explained that the procurement process for the airport terminal expansion had previously been delayed due to appeals, and the authorities cannot afford to waste any more time. He also called on the Chișinău Airport administration to urgently implement a series of measures to improve conditions for passengers. These include increasing the number of seats in waiting areas, installing mobile coffee and food stands to reduce lines, and allocating additional resources to security checkpoints during peak hours. In addition, Vasile Tofan requested that Moldovan goods—wines, sweets, and other local products—be placed in the airport's central shopping area, where most passengers pass through. He called it abnormal that Moldovan wines are located at the back of the hall, while imported whiskey occupies the central area with the highest foot traffic. "The airport is also one of our country's first showcases," the prime minister noted. He thanked the airport staff and the Border Police for handling a passenger flow that significantly exceeds the capacity of the existing infrastructure.
