During the presentation of the report on his activities over the three years of his second term, Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban outlined major infrastructure projects currently at various stages of planning and implementation. For example, work is continuing on the extension of Mircea cel Bătrân Boulevard, and plans are in place to construct and modernize Industrial Street, which is intended to connect Botanica and Ciocana and serve as a bypass road — it will reduce travel time from Ciocana to the airport to 15 minutes. A project to reconstruct Mesager Street is also in the works. Other initiatives include the major repair of the bridge on Izmail Street and the construction of a new bridge and two additional railroad crossings. Plans call for the creation of park-and-ride facilities at the city's entry points. Plans include the expansion and reconstruction of 120 km of water supply networks in Chisinau and its suburbs, the modernization of pumping stations and the sewer system in the historic center, the completion of work on the water treatment plant, and the construction of a new water intake station in Vadul-lui-Voda. The station is expected to provide high-quality drinking water to more than 1 million people, including residents of Chisinau, Straseni, and Calarasi. Preparations are also underway to clean up the bed of the Bic River. Ion Ceban noted that the former landfill in Ciocana, where more than 1 million tons of waste were illegally dumped between 2010 and 2017, has been closed and reclaimed. In the education sector, a complete renovation and thermal insulation of an additional 52 kindergartens is planned, benefiting more than 10,000 children. The project includes repairing roofs and facades, replacing windows and doors, and installing solar panels and ventilation systems. In the Ciocana sector, negotiations are underway to build one school and two kindergartens from the ground up, designed to accommodate nearly 2,000 children. In addition, municipal authorities plan to establish a new shelter for 1,500 stray dogs; currently, about 1,000 animals are already in the municipality's care. Among the long-term initiatives is the update of the "Chisinau-2040" General Urban Development Plan, with the participation of experts from Moldova and Romania. The document is intended to define the directions for the development of urban infrastructure, transportation, residential areas, green spaces, and the preservation of cultural heritage through 2040. Ion Ceban emphasized that work on existing commitments and the preparation of new projects is ongoing.// 06.11.2026 — InfoMarket.
