The 4th National Competition "Wine of Moldova" has started in Moldova, and jury members will taste 340 wines produced by 70 winemakers united under the brand "Wine of Moldova. Amazingly Good."

According to the National Bureau of Vine and Wine (NBVW), the wines will be evaluated by a jury of 12 international specialists from 10 countries and 13 local experts, in strict accordance with the rules of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV). NBVW Director Stefan Iamandi noted that the national competition is a commitment to demonstrating that the high standards of Moldovan wines, for which they are valued in international markets, are upheld with the same rigor at home. The competition is organized according to strict OIV rules, and the jury is 70% composed of international experts. The results of the competition will guarantee an objective assessment of Moldovan wines and compliance with the practices of major international competitions. "This competition is a vital tool for the National Bureau of Vine and Wine: it helps us maintain quality, strengthen the reputation of the national brand 'Moldovan Wine. Amazingly Good,' and support winemakers on their journey to international markets," he said. In turn, Andrian Digolean, State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, noted that 2025 was marked by numerous international events, and the wine industry's successes serve as an example worthy of emulation for many other sectors in Moldova. "Today, we celebrate exceptional wines, the dedication and authenticity of a nation that produces wines of outstanding quality. This competition is of particular importance for Moldova: it increases the country's visibility internationally, gives us the opportunity to showcase the quality of our wines and, most importantly, strengthens Moldova's position as a high-quality wine producer," he noted. The National Wine and Wine Association, responsible for promoting the country's wine brand, "Wine of Moldova. Amazingly Good," at the national and international levels and supporting winemakers' participation in the most prestigious competitions and exhibitions in the field, includes this competition as a central element of its annual program. Elizaveta Breahna, Chairperson of the "Wine of Moldova" National Competition, recalled that the first national edition of the competition took place in 2022. The competition's primary objective stems from the fact that our country has approximately 67,000 hectares of vineyards, of which only 10% are local varieties, the rest being European and Georgian. With the creation of the National Bureau of Vine and Wine (NBVW) and the development of wine tourism, demand for wines made from local varieties has increased significantly. Therefore, the "Wine of Moldova" National Competition is dedicated to wines and sparkling wines made from local varieties, as well as new Moldovan-bred varieties, both single-varietal and blended with European varieties. International jury members are invited to the competition to evaluate the quality of wines made from local varieties. The work of international jury members provides significant support to local winemakers, becoming true ambassadors of Moldovan wine. Wines submitted to the competition will be carefully evaluated by five panels of seven or five members each, four or three of whom are international experts. The results will be centralized using an automated system similar to those used at major international competitions. // 05.12.2025 — InfoMarket
