Moldova is implementing EU enlargement reforms at record speed and is a leader in this area, and cluster negotiations with it will soon be formally opened - Marta Kos

This was stated by the European Commissioner for Enlargement, noting that this will allow the EU to formalize all the work Moldova has done so as not to waste time. According to her, informal negotiations have enabled Moldova to move forward in many areas, including key rule of law reforms, laying the foundation for future EU membership. "We also see impressive performance in the implementation of the Growth Plan reforms. With a 93% rate, Moldova is ahead of all other EU candidates with Growth Plans. This builds trust. We see your progress. We see your potential. And so do many investors. Investors are already betting on Moldova's European future," Marta Kos noted. She emphasized that the EU has launched a call for proposals for European companies interested in tailored EU support for investments in Moldova. "We focused on the agri-food and food processing sectors, manufacturing and light industry, renewable energy, ICT and digital services, tourism, and transport logistics. These are areas where Moldova has a real competitive advantage. We received an excellent response. We received 75 projects. Letters of intent with the first eight companies were signed during the Investment Conference in Chisinau. These represent planned investments of approximately €208 million. In addition, we have received support from financial institutions worth up to €433 million. These investments will be mobilized through a combination of EU grants, guarantees, and loans, as well as funding from international financial institutions, the Moldovan government, and the private sector. In total, EU support provides for planned investments of up to €640 million. Together with the private sector investments of €364 million announced by the Moldovan government, the total investment exceeds €1 billion," said Marta Kos. According to her, Moldova is attractive because it has begun to replicate the proven formula for success of many countries that have joined the European Union. "The recipe is simple: reforms that improve the business environment and legal certainty lead to investment, which in turn leads to economic growth and innovation. This is what happened in Slovenia, Croatia, and the Baltic states. And Moldova can follow the same path – a European path to prosperity that will bring opportunities to your hard-working and innovative people," said the European Commissioner for Enlargement. She emphasized that economic relations between the European Union and Moldova are already very deep. Moldovan producers already have direct access to the world's largest single market. And since Moldova joined the Single Euro Payments Area, any company in Moldova can conduct transactions with its European clients within minutes at virtually no cost. Marta Kos noted that Moldova has transformed its energy sector with remarkable speed. Moldova is already fully integrated into European electricity markets and has freed itself from dependence on Russian gas. Over the past four years, Moldova's renewable energy capacity has grown by nearly 800%. The country has surpassed the 1,000-megawatt mark in installed renewable energy capacity. In April of this year alone, renewable energy sources covered more than a third of national consumption. At certain periods, this figure even approached 100%. The European Commissioner noted that Moldova's geographical location between Europe and eastern markets provides a competitive advantage in transport and logistics. She noted that this is a promising and growing sector, especially now that the European Union is seeking alternative trade routes to Asia and increasingly turning its attention to the Black Sea region and the South Caucasus. Moldova is an important link in this path. // 04.06.2026 — InfoMarket
