Moldova’s volume of industrial production decreased by 6.3% in January-July 2020 versus the same period in 2019
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, at the same time, in July 2020, the volume of industrial production decreased by 2.4% relative to the same month of the previous year. In general, in January-July 2020, compared to the same period in 2019, production volume in the extractive industry decreased by 3.2%, and in the processing industry - decreased by 6.3%. According to the NBS, in the first 7 months of 2020, food industry enterprises increased overall production by 8.4% versus the same period in 2019. There was a 7.7% decline in the beverage industry. The production of textile products decreased by 18.8%. Clothing production decreased by 14%. Tanning and finishing of leather; production of suitcases, bags, harness and saddlery; dressing and dyeing of fur recorded a decline of 2.4%, and wood processing and production of products from wood and cork, except for furniture; production of articles made of straw and other plant materials for plaiting registered a 29.4% decline. Production of paper and paper products decreased by 0.4%, while production of chemicals and chemical products increased by 33.3%. There was registered a 3% decline in the production of pharmaceutical products and drugs, and a 3.9% decline in the production of rubber and plastic products. In the metallurgical industry, production fell by 9%. The output of metal structures and products, except for machinery, equipment and installations, increased by 6.2%, computers, electronic and optical products - decreased by 37.1%. A 37.7% decline was registered in the production of electrical equipment. The production of machinery and equipment decreased by 28.9%, cars, trailers and semi-trailers - decreased by 40.8%. Furniture production decreased by 10.5%. In the repair, maintenance and installation of machinery and equipment, a decline of 21.8% was recorded. There was a 6.4% decrease in the production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water.
