Moldova will exchange electronic social security data with EU countries

It will join the Electronic Exchange of Social Security Information (EESSI) system with European Union countries. Specifically, this is provided for by relevant legislative amendments that Parliament passed in the second reading to facilitate coordination and the electronic exchange of social security data with EU countries. The document establishes the necessary legal framework for coordinating social security systems and the electronic exchange of data with EU countries. The bill was drafted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection in collaboration with the National Social Insurance Office and is included in Moldova’s National Program for EU Accession for 2025–2029. It is expected that the new provisions will enable Moldova to prepare for the implementation of European rules on the coordination of social security systems and for connecting to the EESSI system. This platform is used by all EU countries, the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom for the rapid and secure exchange of social security information. It is expected that Moldova’s connection to EESSI will bring significant benefits to Moldovan citizens who have worked or lived in European countries by simplifying access to pensions, benefits, and other social entitlements, reducing document processing times, and eliminating the need to submit paper documents. The bill will take effect on the date Moldova joins the European Union. Until then, the government will ensure the necessary institutional and technical preparations for implementing European standards and connecting to the EESSI infrastructure. To date, Moldova has signed 20 social security agreements, 18 of which are already in effect. // 09.07.2026 – InfoMarket
