Moldova, together with the EU, the World Bank, the EIB, and the EBRD, is investing over €300 million in the energy modernization of schools, hospitals, universities, and other public institutions - the Ministry of Energy
This was announced by Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu, speaking at the 11th annual Global Energy Efficiency Conference, organized by the International Energy Agency in Montreal, one of the most important international forums dedicated to energy efficiency policy. According to the Ministry of Energy, during the ministerial meeting and high-level thematic sessions, Dorin Junghietu presented Moldova's progress in energy efficiency, digitalization of the energy sector, and the protection of vulnerable consumers. In his speech, the Minister emphasized that for Moldova, energy efficiency has long ceased to be simply an environmental goal and has become a strategic tool for strengthening energy security and reducing citizens' vulnerability. "For Moldova, energy efficiency is a top priority," Junghietu said. "This is the fastest, most accessible, and most effective investment we can make to strengthen energy security and reduce citizens' bills. Every renovated building, every energy-efficient appliance, and every kilowatt-hour saved means less energy dependence and a more competitive economy," stated Dorin Junghietu. He listed the main investments and projects implemented in recent years in the field of energy efficiency, including through the Residential Buildings Energy Efficiency Fund, the EcoVoucher program, which aims to replace old appliances with energy-efficient equipment, and the Casa Verde program, which provides grants for the insulation of private homes and the installation of modern heating systems, photovoltaic panels, and batteries. At the same time, the Minister of Energy noted that Moldova, together with the European Union, the World Bank, the European Investment Bank, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, is investing over €300 million in the energy modernization of schools, hospitals, universities, and other public institutions. During a discussion on household energy policy, the Minister of Energy spoke about our country's experience in overcoming the energy crisis and the measures taken to protect the population. "The energy crisis has shown us that energy availability and energy security are inseparable. Support for vulnerable consumers must be part of energy policy, not just social policy. Herewith, compensation is a short-term solution. A sustainable solution is energy efficiency, which reduces household vulnerability and gives them greater independence," said Dorin Junghietu. During a discussion on the use of artificial intelligence to improve energy efficiency, the Minister of Energy emphasized that digital transformation must begin with the development of a reliable data infrastructure. "Artificial intelligence is only as effective as the data it uses. Therefore, our priority is to create a digital foundation for the energy sector – smart meters, the National Register of Points of Consumption, the National Energy Management Platform, and the National Energy Efficiency Information System. Only with secure, interoperable, and real-time data will we be able to fully utilize the potential of artificial intelligence," the Minister of Energy said. In concluding his speech, he emphasized that digitalization of the energy sector must be accompanied by high standards of cybersecurity and the development of modern services that allow consumers to monitor their energy consumption in real time, receive personalized cost-reduction recommendations, and thus participate in the energy market. As part of the conference, Dorin Junghietu held bilateral meetings with Quebec Environment Minister Pascale Dery and Montreal Deputy Mayor Effie Giannou. The discussions aimed to strengthen cooperation in the energy transition and energy efficiency, as well as to share best practices in sustainable development. The annual Global Energy Efficiency Conference, organized by the International Energy Agency, is a leading international event dedicated to energy efficiency policy. This year's conference, held in Montreal, brought together over 600 participants: ministers and high-level representatives, heads of international organizations, financial institutions, and business representatives to discuss specific measures and best practices. // 01.07.2026 — InfoMarket
