An IMF mission led by Alina Iancu will visit Moldova from May 7 to 20 to coordinate policies under the new program
According to Svetlana Cerović, the International Monetary Fund’s Resident Representative in our country, the IMF mission will hold discussions with the authorities in response to a request for a new agreement under the Policy Coordination Instrument. IMF experts will analyze recent economic developments, update the assessment of macroeconomic prospects and risks, and discuss policy and reform priorities with the authorities and other key stakeholders. The Policy Coordination Instrument is a non-financial tool available to all IMF member countries. It allows for closer dialogue with countries and ensures IMF support for economic policy measures. This enables countries to demonstrate their commitment to reforms and mobilize financing from other sources. Earlier, Finance Minister Andrian Gavrilita noted that the IMF mission will arrive in Chisinau on May 7 and will spend two weeks discussing the terms of a future agreement with the Fund with Moldovan authorities. The main discussions will focus on the tax system and tax administration, areas in which a preliminary consensus has already been reached with IMF experts. During the negotiations, the parties will discuss which elements will be included in the new agreement with the Fund, including what support instruments will be provided to ensure the achievement of all planned objectives, for the benefit of the budget and the economy. Andrian Gavrilita emphasized that Moldova has reached a consensus on most issues related to the new IMF program, and the Fund fully supports the Moldovan authorities’ intention to build a tax system in line with global best practices regarding simplicity, convenience, and competitiveness. // 06.05.2026 — InfoMarket
