Moldova will continue to implement structural reforms, effectively utilize EU assistance, and build a competitive economy capable of ensuring a higher standard of living - Alexandru Munteanu

Prime Minister made this statement at a meeting with Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighborhood (DG ENEST), Gert Jan Koopman, with whom he discussed progress in implementing reforms, preparing investment projects, and leveraging the opportunities provided by the Growth Plan for Moldova. Alexandru Munteanu emphasized that, despite the numerous crises of recent times, Moldova continues to implement structural reforms and policies aimed at sustainable economic growth, in close cooperation with European partners and international financial institutions. In this context, the start of discussions on a new IMF program for Moldova was also noted. According to data, in 2025 the national economy grew by approximately 2.4%, thanks to the development of the agriculture, manufacturing, construction, and services sectors. At the same time, investment growth of approximately 22% confirms the strengthening of the economy and the increasingly important role of investment as a driver of development. Another topic was the implementation of the EU-backed Growth Plan—the largest financial assistance package ever provided to Moldova, totaling 1.9 billion euros. Officials discussed the preparation and prioritization of investment projects, private sector participation, and the strengthening of institutional capacity for their implementation. As noted, following the implementation of 24 adopted reforms, Moldova is set to receive the second tranche under the Growth Plan, amounting to €173 million, as well as additional grants totaling €15.6 million to support investments. The parties emphasized the importance of ensuring a stable and predictable economic environment that will stimulate investment and contribute to increased productivity in key sectors of the economy. They also reaffirmed their commitment to continuing reforms, effectively utilizing the support provided by the European Union, and building a competitive economy capable of ensuring a higher standard of living. // 23.03.2026 — InfoMarket.
