The EBRD will support new projects in Moldova aimed at expanding farmers' access to finance and modernizing irrigation systems
This was discussed during a meeting between Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and Giuseppe Grimaldi, Head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development's Moldova Office. According to the government's press service, the parties discussed the progress of EBRD-supported projects aimed at rehabilitating roads and improving energy security. Alexandru Munteanu emphasized the importance of cooperation with the EBRD for the country's sustainable development, noting the bank's role in supporting reforms and strengthening the Moldovan economy. He emphasized that the EBRD's financial assistance and expertise significantly contribute to modernizing infrastructure and enhancing the competitiveness of our economy. "We have strong cooperation and a shared vision. Together, by implementing the Moldova Growth Plan, we can bring the country closer to European standards," the Prime Minister stated. The participants reviewed the key infrastructure projects currently being implemented in Moldova with EBRD support, noting the need to promote them and prioritize them according to current needs. It was noted that 67 projects are currently being implemented in Moldova with EBRD support in key areas: modernization of road and rail infrastructure, energy interconnection, energy efficiency, improving the security of natural gas supplies, and improving waste management. These projects include the reconstruction and expansion of the M2 Chisinau ring road, the reconstruction of the Chisinau-Leuseni road, the construction of the Vulcanesti-Chisinau power transmission line, and the modernization of district heating systems in Balti and Chisinau. One of the future areas of focus is expanding farmers' access to finance, which complements irrigation system modernization projects aimed at stimulating productivity and sustainability in the agricultural sector.
