Moldovan Parliament has registered a draft law to improve the law on the implementation of support measures for farmers in connection with the drought of 2024

According to the Chairman of the Committee on Economy, Budget and Finance, Radu Marian, in particular, the proposed amendments stipulate the extension of the deadline for applications until October 31, 2025, and introduce an explicit provision that the law applies to all current debts of farmers, regardless of the date of the debt, and not only to those formed from September 1, 2023 to September 1, 2024. The beneficiaries of the law, along with farmers, will also include resource providers. The provision on the extent of drought-affected land at 50% to 60% will be removed from the law. A limit of 3500 hectares of land holding per beneficiary will be introduced. In addition, a maximum limit of 20% of the area of orchards and vegetables in the agricultural portfolio to qualify for assistance is introduced. Assignment of claims to third party creditors without the consent of the debtor is prohibited. Land owners are prohibited from entering into lease agreements with other farmers during the period of the law, subject to contractual obligations for 2024. // 02.12.2024 - InfoMarket.
