In 2014-2018 the annual population decline was 1.8%. According to preliminary data by the NBS, out of the total population of Moldova, 1 million 404.5 thousand people are women, 1 million 277.1 thousand people are men. The average life expectancy in the country is 70.6 years: 66.3 years for men and 75 years for women. At the beginning of 2019, for every 100 Moldovans aged 15–59 years, there were 65.8 people under the age of 14 and over 60 years old. For every 100 inhabitants aged 15-59, there were 34.5 elderly people over 60 years old. Revised population of Moldova for 2014–2018 was presented on Thursday, World Population Day. Constant number of inhabitants of Moldova was calculated by the NBS in partnership with the Swiss Cooperation Office within the framework of the UN project “Strengthening the National Statistical System”.
