Another 0.5 million euros for these purposes will be provided by the United Nations Development Program, since the total cost of the program is estimated at 23.5 million euros. The allocation of funds is provided for by an appropriate financing agreement between the Government of Moldova and the European Commission, which the Cabinet of Ministers approved at a meeting on Tuesday, also endorsing the subsequent conclusion of this document, which is expected to be signed by Prime Minister of Moldova Maia Sandu and Director of the Department of Eastern Neighborhood of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Neighborhood Policy and the EU Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) Lawrence Meridith. As the Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Georgeta Mincu noted, the Cahul and Ungheni districts were selected for support of their inclusive economic development by development partners. The goal of the program is to strengthen the socio-economic development of these territories, improve the living standards of citizens in these microregions, and create political, economic and social conditions that will enhance the ability of women and men to improve their living and working conditions in these selected pilot microregions. At the same time, emphasis will be placed on developing a smart economy, developing key sectors of the economy, supporting economic development, increasing productivity, supporting youth, developing entrepreneurship, encouraging the creation of small and medium-sized enterprises, sustainable development of communes and cities in these areas, etc. The implementation term of this support program is 96 months.
