Moldova in 2020 may receive more money from the European Union in connection with plans to increase by 102 million euros the amount of financing for the countries of the Eastern Neighborhood in the EU budget.
European Parliament Deputy Siegfried Muresan took the initiative in introducing the relevant amendments, who spoke in favor of an increase of € 102 million in total of funds for the Eastern Neighborhood countries, including Moldova. He argued his proposal by saying that the Moldovan government committed itself to renewing the economic and political reforms stipulated by the Association Agreement, and the EU should meet the pro-European government and provide additional funding for those projects and policies aimed at improving the lives of Moldovan citizens, strengthening the rule of law and intensification of the fight against corruption. The amendments proposed by Siegfried Muresan provide for an increase in allocations for those budget lines through which investment projects and public administration reform in the Eastern Neighborhood countries are financed. “Regarding the Republic of Moldova, my amendments are aimed at financing projects through which we want to increase the well-being of citizens, the funds will be used to develop transport and energy infrastructure, support small and medium enterprises, as well as reform public administration, strengthen the rule of law and fight against corruption. We expect from the Moldovan authorities that they will fulfill their obligations to implement reforms so that the European Union continues to support Moldova with European funds, technical assistance and political support, ”added Siegfried Muresan. The draft EU budget for 2020 will be adopted by the European Parliament and the Council of the EU until the end of November.// 06.09.2019 — InfoMarket
