Hundreds of high-ranking guests and professionals from the wine tourism segment from 60 countries will take part in the third World Conference of wine tourism in Chisinau.

The event, organized by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNTWO), will be held for the first time in the capital of Moldova from 6 to 7 September and this grand event is expected to contribute to the promotion of our country at the international level as a popular wine tourism destination. "Wine tourism - an important element of sustainable development of rural areas" is the theme of the third World Wine Tourism Conference, which will touch upon such aspects as exploring opportunities for sustainable development of rural areas through the prism of inbound tourism in general and wine tourism in particular. Sustainable development of rural areas is a global priority and implies the need to combine economic growth and protect the environment, in order to meet the challenges of the 21st century. During the 2-day conference, will be organized many events to develop domestic wine tourism and familiarize with the tourist offer of Moldova, including excursions and wine tastings, gastronomic and cultural shows, handicraft exhibitions. All of them will be held at different wineries, so that guests could form a full impression of the tourism potential of our country. At the local level, the event is coordinated by the Investment Agency of Moldova. The general director of the agency Rodica Verbeniuc noted that the World Wine Tourism Conference organized by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is a significant event for the world tourism industry, which every year becomes a platform for discussion and exchange of experience among professionals around the world. For Moldova, is an honor to host this major event, joining the world-famous wine countries - Georgia and Argentina, where the previous two conferences were held. "Wine tourism is a strategic sector for Moldova's economy, and our wines, cuisine, landscapes, culture deserve to be recognized and appreciated. We tell our guests "Noroc!" And we hope that the event will become an international platform for the promotion of our country as an attractive destination for tourism and investment," said Rodica Verbeniuc. According to the World Tourism Organization, last year the total world income from inbound tourism amounted to about $ 1.3 billion, or 10% of the total world GDP, 30% of the total volume of exported services or 7% of total exports. Every 10th working place is in the sphere of tourism. This is the industry with the highest growth rates at the international level, tripling its revenues from 2000 to the present, and according to the WTO forecasts, this trend will continue until 2030. Moldova's tourism sector has great potential for development. In just a few years, our country has evolved from the least visited European direction (2013, Lonely Planet) to one of the top 10 tourist destinations of the year, according to authoritative publications (2017, National Geographic, Huffington Post, Trips.com). Last year, 50% more foreign citizens visited Moldova than in 2015. Also in 2017, agritourism boarding houses took in 3 times more visitors, the number of wineries providing tourist services doubled, and the number of tourists visiting the wine directions increased by 20%.//03.09.2018 — InfoMarket.
